The estimate indicates the likely costs you will be required to pay for the anaesthesia services associated with your operation or procedure. It does not cover services provided by other doctors or other costs associated with your treatment. Sometimes, in the event of unforeseen circumstances, it may be necessary to arrange additional medical services resulting in further charges to you.
If you have any concerns or require further information please discuss this with our office, preferably before your procedure.

The anaesthetic fee will be based on a number of factors including the length and complexity of your operation. The fee is in line with the recommendations of the Australia Society of Anaesthetists and the Australian Medical Association.

In some cases you may be asked to pre-pay the full anaesthetic fee. After you have paid for your procedure we can electronically claim on your behalf from Medicare and/or your Health Fund. There are certain procedures (e.g. cosmetic surgery) which are not covered by either Medicare or your health fund.

Payments may be made by cash at our office, cheque, B/Pay or Visa/ MasterCard over the telephone.

Medicare and your health fund covers only part of the cost of your anaesthetic services. This amount is fixed by government legislation. Therefore, you will be responsible for the “gap” which is your “out of pocket” amount to pay. Your gap payment is likely to range from around $200 for smaller operations to $1500 or more for larger operations.
